We had an exciting Christmas with the kids--so exciting that it's taken us a month to get back to blogging! We'll try to catch up, posting now and then about the Christmas break, but just now, about January . . .
We had borrowed a bike and gone with Jon for a bike ride to the Giants' Ring and on the way back, Gwen had a very nasty spill trying to negotiate a turn halfway down a fairly steep hill. I heard her hit the tarmac and break her helmet--a sickening crack. (No damage to the borrowed bike, thankfully.) She managed to cycle home, a little dazed and a lot sore, and we decided later that she probably cracked a rib. She missed some days at work and spent a lot of time recuperating, but she's steadily getting better and has worked 2 days without too much discomfort. Yesterday was such a gorgeous clear day that we just had to get on the bikes and go. We ended up cycling all the way in to the Botanic Gardens, so way to go, Gwen--after a fall, get back on & go again!
I don't know if this photo is clear enough to see the cheeky little robin sitting on my front wheel. He was determined that we weren't going to get any pictures of him!
