Ten things Gwen likes about Northern Ireland
These are in random order:
1. The lovely soft water - just a little bubble bath and you have a tub full of bubbles!
2. There is no tax added to your bill - There is a 17% VAT but it is hidden.
3. There is no snow - Once at work they called me to see the snow - it lasted for about 5 minutes and it melted before it hit the ground.
4. Everything is green! I have had flower boxes of primrose, heather, and pansies outside all winter. The spring bulbs are up and ready to bloom.
5. I must confess that I like using butter - it's hard to find margarine and it isn't great quality - there is also a great variety of excellent cheeses.
6. Though not having a car has it's disadvantages - it's been great getting lots of exercise biking and walking. ( when I go to work it is 1 hour and 20 minutes of walking- round trip)
7. I have loved getting to know people at work and the neighbours. They all contribute to the Northern Ireland experience. The Irish have a great accent and have old sayings that are funny and priceless. An example is the neighbour next door said when I had lost my house keys when Randy was away at a conference in England and found them that , " If you'd fallen into the Lagan River you'd have come up with a new suit." Translated it means that I was lucky.
8. The Charity shops. I always head for the bric a brac section( housewares) - I have collected a large tea services of Paragon china which if bought I Canada would have cost hundreds of dollars. A couple days ago I picked up a mint condition wedgwood tray.
9. I am very thankful for our great accomodations. Our house is warm and comfortable -and we live in a good part of town. I am so thankful for the deep freeze. Our fridge isn't much larger that bar fridge and that would mean that we would have to make many trips a week for groceries. As it is we can stock up on food when it is on sale!
10. It's like a second honeymoon spending so much time with Randy. We have lots of adventures and opportunites to see and do things that we wouldn't be able to in Canada. He is very indulgent with me and will play a game of dice, take two, scrabble or Yatzee almost every night after supper. I have always loved playing games.

Maybe when it has rained and has been overcast for 6 days in a row I could share with you my list of 10 things I dislike about Northern Ireland.

As always, an enjoyable read! Hey what about the canned grapefruit?! Maybe there are a few more than 10 wonderful things about Ireland?! :) Glad to hear you are feeling better after the biking mishap Gwen.
